Our Story

We hope our website will answer many questions regarding funeral planning, our facilities and how Carter-Taylor-Williams Mortuary can serve the needs of your family in life’s final event.

Our History:

Carter-Taylor Williams Mortuary was established by Mr. J. W. Williamson along with his son, and it began as Williamson and Son Funeral Home. In 1913 Mr. Oliver Jackson Carter became a member of the team. It was renamed Williamson Carter and Williamson Funeral Home.  Mr. Williamson passed away in 1920, and later in 1920 Mr. Carter along with Mr. S. J. Sutton became partners with Mr. George Williamson, the son of Mr. J. W. Williamson. The funeral home was renamed once again as Williamson and company. Mrs. Sarah Williamson remarried and left the city only to return long enough to sell the business to Mr. Carter in 1921. The funeral home was renamed Carter Sutton Funeral Directors. In 1927 Mr. Carter passed away and his widow, Mrs. Annie Edith Carter and Mr. S. J. Sutton continued the operation of the funeral home. In 1936 Mr. S. J. Sutton left the partnership. Mrs. Carter renamed the funeral home once again, it was now known as the Carter Undertaking Company. Mrs. Carter continued to operate the funeral home until her health and age would no longer allow to her to successfully do so.  Her niece Mrs. Julia Taylor and her husband Jimmy, took charge of the funeral home and and it's daily operation continued. Mr. Taylor became the funeral director in charge and Mrs. Carter no longer had to handle the business affairs. Mr. Edward "Eddie" Williams became an employee of the funeral home during this same time. Mrs. Carter passed away in 1964 and again the funeral home was renamed adding the Taylor name. It became the Carter-Taylor Mortuary. Mr. Taylor passed away in 1966 and Mr. Eddie Williams picked up the reigns of the funeral home and continued the operation.
